Job purpose. Duties & Responsibilities
- JOB PURPOSE
- The Project Director plays a key role in managing and supervising complex and strategic projects within the telecommunications sector. As a leader, he is responsible for coordinating teams, managing resources, monitoring timelines, and ensuring the quality of deliverables while guaranteeing compliance with environmental and social (E&S) regulations. He works closely with clients, internal teams, partners, and suppliers to ensure the successful execution of project, adhering to budget constraints and technical requirements. This position requires in-depth expertise in project management and a comprehensive understanding of telecommunications technologies and systems.
- JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project Management
- Lead and oversee the entire project lifecycle in the telecommunications industry, from feasibility studies to final delivery.
- Develop detailed project plans, including objectives, timelines, budgets, and required resources. Ensure daily tracking to monitor progress and adjust priorities as necessary.
- Establish a strategic roadmap and deployment schedule that ensures on-time delivery and cost management.
- Ensure that projects meet client expectations regarding quality and technical specifications.
- Resource and Team Management
- Supervise and mentor a team of project managers, engineers, and technicians. Define clear objectives and provide technical and strategic support.
- Ensure continuous training for team members to stay up-to-date with the latest innovations and technologies.
- Optimize the management of internal and external resources (suppliers, subcontractors) to ensure project efficiency.
- Client and Stakeholder Management
- Maintain continuous communication with clients to understand their needs, gather feedback, and adjust priorities accordingly.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders (clients, partners, suppliers, regulators) to align objectives and ensure project success.
- Analyze risks, resolve conflicts, and make strategic decisions to maintain project progress.
- Monitoring and Reporting
- Provide detailed reports to management and clients on project progress, potential risks, resource utilization, and overall performance.
- Implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate project success in terms of timelines, costs, and quality.
- Identify deviations from forecasts and propose solutions to mitigate impacts on schedules and budgets.
- Risk and Quality Management
- Identify, assess, and monitor risks throughout the project lifecycle, implementing mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and industry regulations.
- Conduct regular quality reviews to ensure deliverables meet defined standards and specifications.
- Compliance with E&S and HSE Standards
- Ensure the implementation of the Group's environmental and social management system.
- Integrate environmental and social requirements from the project design phase.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and local and international E&S and HSE regulations.
- Organize regular audits to verify project compliance with E&S standards.
- Oversee the implementation of the project's Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP).
- Budget Management
- Define and manage project budgets, monitoring costs throughout the project lifecycle to prevent overruns.
- Implement strategies to optimize costs while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Negotiate with suppliers to secure the best possible conditions and ensure budget compliance.
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Stay abreast of the latest trends and innovations in telecommunications to integrate best practices and advanced technologies into projects.
- Propose improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, or improve service quality.
Initial training and required experiences
- Master’s degree (Bac +5) in Telecommunications, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- PMP (Project Management Professional), PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience managing complex projects in the telecommunications industry.
- Proven expertise in managing multidisciplinary projects with diverse team sizes and significant budgets.
- Proven international experience, particularly in Central Africa, is highly recommended.
- Deep technical knowledge of telecommunications systems, infrastructure, and technologies (networks, 5G, fiber optics, etc.).
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong team management capabilities with a demonstrated ability to motivate, lead, and guide diverse teams.
- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills under pressure.
- Proficiency in project management tools (Microsoft Project, Primavera, Jira, etc.).
- Extensive knowledge of resource management and budget monitoring tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in an international environment.
- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with senior executives, clients, and partners.
- Fluency in English & French, both written and spoken, is essential. Proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
